Week 034/102: maandag 18 januari email van Elder Meads

Dear Everyone,

This week was long and hard as we were trying to get as many appointments as we could. A few fell through which was too bad, but we got in with 5 people total (not including member meals) which was a serious blessing. The first was a 1st lesson with a guy named K
ees Hout and he´s this 60 something year old dude who´s super open and positive. I´m excited to see where he goes. We got a return appointment, and he says he´ll come to church this coming up week, so we´ll see how that goes. We also taught this family who has had all of the lessons several times and are ready for baptism. They all have solid testimonies of the gospel, but won´t be baptized until the also member father comes from England to baptize them, so we just work on getting them to church and so forth. After that, it was just a LOT of look ups and contacting. This is where the hard and long part comes in.

It is so discouraging to go out and talk to people who are usually rude, but it wasn´t as bad as I´ve had it before. We´ve gotten a lot of potentials out of the week, so that makes it all better. A funny story this week, is really just an ongoing thing. There´s this 90ish year old man who sits at home everyday, and he looks out his window quite often. He has a lot of statues of naked women in his window, and so we´ve given him the nick name ´´the ol´perv´´. One time I decided to knock his door. He was incomprehensible, but was pretty sure he didn´t want anything we had to give.  Ever since then, we´ve given a big smile and a wave at him while we pass his window.

He´s always looking out of it, and the first time we did it, he kind of gave a confused wave, but as we´ve done it more and more, he sits by his window even more and even stands up to smile and wave at us back. Maybe I´ll knock on his door again, haha. Okay, send me some emails about what you did during the week, talk to you guys later.

Here are those pictures I couldn't get uploaded last week. Your welcome! -Elder Meads
Elder Da Silva in the middle, and Zuster Goodman behind him. No idea who her comp is. Morrell is sitting on the fence.

A train we made. We´ve got Goodman in the back, Groenveld next, Crowson next, and then Zr. Cowles.
1st time seeing Thornock since the MTC!

Goodman & I did a few laps around the rink like this.  No worries.  Everyone took turns with everyone else.  It was good wholesome fun.  See, here's Goodman & I again, reversed roles:

I want YOU for my AP (lol).

We were given free food from a member. That´s some quality cheese & lekker!
Great story: This is a random Dutch guy we found who said he had been given a Book of Mormon by some other guys a few years back and was taught some lessons about it. He then asked us to come into his apartment and eat his fruit for their vitamins. He kept offering us coffee or tea and we kept saying we couldn’t drink it, but thanks. So funny. Well, it turned out that he was totally smashed, so even though we shouldn't have, we took advantage of the situation and had him hold his BofM while we took a photo. He’s a sailor and said he starts drinking every day at 3 p.m., so we made an appointment with him for next week at 1 - long before he gets drunk. Maybe then he'll be able to remember what he read. Just before leaving, he offered us some non-alcoholic grape juice. He insisted we take the whole bottle home with us, so that was nice. It now hangs on our trophy wall. If he does end up progressing, we'll show this photo at his baptism.
