Week 032/102: maandag 4 januari email van Elder Meads

Hello everyone!

So, this week was the week I was looking forward to the most this transfer: New Years - or as the Dutch say it, Oude Niuew. I don´t have a lot of time, so here it goes.

We got set up nice on the roof of our apartment to watch the firework display which was supposidly bigger than anything in America. Come to find out, it was true of all I've seen. Absolutely HUGE! I made a video, but it's too big to upload to anything, so you´ll need to see it when I get back. Really sick display.

We hit it hard this week as far as missionary work goes, and it was a little rough, but the next week is booked so I'm grateful as far as that goes. Look-ups all day every day is not fun. Not at all. As my Dad has said on several occasions, "The gospel is just like a gym & gym membership." If you can commit to read, ponder, pray, go to church, act on your limited faith... (All hard things to do I might add) then you will be rewarded with a testimony. Just commit to live the way Christ's gospel demands - Also VERY hard to do sometimes if not at all times - then you WILL reap the benefits of it. Jeffrey R. Holland has some of my favorite quotes while on a mission, and one of these is "We´re living in a day and age where the only control over our lives, has to be self control."

The bishop that is in the new ward I've moved into is the certified "best Bibel scholar in the Netherlands." He is really quite something to see in action. Back in my baby city of Assen, another member, Broeder De Jonge was the best example I've seen on my mission thus far. I know it´s not their straight up Bible knowledge that brings this about, but it´s their daily living of the gospel. I want to be that way. They´re examples to me, and honestly, they do seem to have life figured out.

Okay, sorry, I said it was gonna be short. Other missionaries are looking over my shoulder to email their families, but I´ll send a better email next week.

P.S. I came close to killing a pigeon this week.
Love you! Bye!

Trusting in another missionary from Scheidam for
my European haircut :D He also cut my comp’s hair.

A small box of Korean frosted flakes. I took this for Zuster Markus

who´s a missionary from here, currently serving in Korea.

Not sure what this is exactly. It could be the stadhuis here,

but not sure. Cool building none the less. Europe :D

Wish I could´ve eaten that. Wat jammer!

An interesting cubed-topped building:

New Year´s Eve Party at the bishop Koppe´s house. Very nice family.

We were required to stay in on New Year's Eve. So...
We set ourselves up all nice and warm for the New Years fireworks on our roof top.

Can´t have an AMERICAN HOLIDAY without some American pride.

That´s right. New Years is an American holiday, or so say members we know.
New Year’s Eve aftermath:

Canal - so dutch :D
