Week 013/102: maandag 24 augustus e-mail van Elder Meads

Sorry, I have hardly any time today to email, but whatever. I'm putting all my photo's on dropbox now, BECAUSE I FINALLY CAN! :D

Hoi Everyone,

I don't remember anything about my last week in Washington. Instead, I'll share all of the photos I was banned from sending while there. They're pretty random, but oh well. I got on my flight from Washington to S.L.C., and there I met Elder Wright who was also a VISA waiter. SUPER cool. Then from there I took a 10 hour flight from S.L.C. to Amsterdam. When I got there I was pretty tired, but once I started to realize I was in Europe, it was as if I was on happy drugs the rest of the day.

I couldn't believe my sleep deprived eyes! The paved roads, the very Dutch houses, weird European license plates, and Dutch signs. So cool! We filled out paperwork to make myself legal to live there which took a while, and then we went to a hotel where we ate some delicious food. The meats the cheeses and the bread are all exceptional! I don't know what America is doing wrong, but the food here is so so good! Then we had a lot of meetings I don't remember much about because at this point I had been awake for like 27 hours. I finally got to have a 1 hour power nap up in the hotel, and then we had more meetings and more things to do to make everything else legal. Then we were allowed blissful sleep for the night in the hotel, which I enjoyed.
Once I woke up it was off to more meetings and I met my trainer, Elder Torneienen. He's from Finland, which explains why I found his last name really hard to pronounce. It's super super cool to have him as my trainer, plus he's a really great guy. Then the best thing happened; I reunited with my M.T.C. buds, Elder D'Agostin, Elder Richards, along with Elder Sosa and Elder Ocampo. If I wasn't on drugs before, I was now, and it felt great! I went to Assen with my new comp on a train for like 3 hours, then got to our apartment and I don't rremember much after that. Jet lag.
The past week of actual missionary work has been great! I have seen some very Dutch advertisements every single day that had me looking away quickly. idk if sculptures and such in the city count, for this email they won't. But yea, nothing is censored at all, completely nude. It baffles me! Sodom and Gomorrah for sure (not sure if I spellt that right). When I got into the mission they were like, " yea this is one of the hardest missions in the world to stay clean and such, so the people they send here aren't idiots and there's a lot of trust they give to us. And it's so true.
My companion is a freaking dream! I don't feel like he's looking for ANY opportunity to try and show me his correct way to do things. He asks my input on a lot of things which did surprise me. Just a real big breath of fresh air to be here and not have anyone constantly negatively scrutinizing every moment of my everyday. My comp is amazing and I'm not just blowing you sunshine. I am so happy! I love Netherlands! Being a missionary is fantastic!

Another thing that is weird is the language. In the M.T.C. and Washington, it was kind of a novelty thing to do, but now it's just what people use to communicate and it's weirding me out. I can't hardly understand anyone. My mind has to run marathons to keep up with what's said. Funny experience real quick. So, yesterday, while I was at church, I was try to say "Where is the best place to...?" But I was stuck on 'best' which is ''beste'' and he thought I was trying to say 'where is the vasee' which sounds a lot like best, but means bathroom, so I was escorted to the bathroom. lol. Well, I don't have so much time left to email, sorry mom and everyone for not getting personal emails, but I hope I've been able to answer any questions you had.

I just want to say, family, hometown friends, and M.T.C. district bros, that I love ya so much and I'm glad you had my back the 6 weeks I was in Washington. I love ya tons! I'm totally over time now, 'cause today I'm off to buy a new suit, hopefully for cheap, a new watch, and new shoes. I'm excited. I'll chat with you peeps next week! Cya!
